‘Tis the Season for Compassion

With the  popular emphasis on the 12 Days of Christmas theme, one gets to see all sorts of variations, from the traditional to more specific, like the 12 Days of Football. The overwhelming focus is materialistic, things we can see, hear and touch.

But what if we turned our attention to 12 days of non-materialistic matters, such as picking up the tab for a senior’s coffee? Or, volunteer at a community garden? Call a grandparent? Donate a book? These are just a few ideas to get you started. Kindness and compassion aren’t limited to just 12 days, but today, Christmas Day, is a wonderful time to initiate a yearlong [and beyond] habit that will enrich the lives of others, and yours, too. Once the 12 days are over on January 6, simply keep repeating 12 additional days about 30 more times during the year. And before you know it, living with kindness will simply be who you are, not what you have.
