Backyards, Blankets & Fun—Oh My!

Open the door, and sleep outside under the stars this Saturday, June 23, when you and your kids take part in the annual Great American Backyard Campout, sponsored by the National Wildlife Foundation, or NWF.

Since today’s kids, on the average, spend more time indoors than ever, this is an awesome family activity to inspire them to take advantage of the wonderful world of nature that lies just outside their doors.

Since June is Great Outdoors Month, what better opportunity to explore what’s going on in the non-electronic realm. And if you can’t do this on June 23, feel free to hold a campout whenever it’s best for you, but still register your event on the website. NWF wants to hears from you!

No prior camping experience is required, and you’ll be right at home. Now even if you don’t have a back yard, per se, you can go to a park, local campground, and even team up with others to make the experience a memorable one. And the good thing is, there’s no one way to  create a wonderful time. the website is chock full of all kinds of ideas, songs, games, and more to fuel your imagination.

Better still, don’t forget to register [it’s FREE!] your camping time before the 23rd so you can be counted in this year’s participants. There’s even time to take part in a fundraiser with the NWF. [with a timely deadline of July 31]Take a look at this short video:

This is the 8th year in a row for this observation.

So ditch that screen, and get out in the green!
