With just a little under a week to go, YOU the public, have the opportunity to select your choices in not only one, but in two annual green awards recognizing everyday people making a difference. These awards are: Hearts of Green 2011, sponsored by The Daily Green consumer info website, and The Green Awards, presented by a coalition of national environmental organizations and the Green Giant Corporation. The deadline for both contests is Sunday, March 27.
The Green Awards were launched to showcase and inspire those grassroots changemakers who create sustainable awareness locally and globally. A total of $120,00 in prize money will be distributed among 12 Finalists, with $25,000 going to the highest in four categories: Green Entrepreneur, Green Local Organizer, Green Civic Leader, and Green Parent. The good thing is that you can vote daily for your choices until the end of the contest. Check out the website for more details.
In a similar vein, Hearts of Green 2011 highlights real people doing big green thins. Using the tagline “helping to make green go mainstream,” there are 18 categories with several nominees in each, including Greenest Cities, and Best New Innovations.
Each nominee has made significant contributions, or reached a notable milestone. An optional “other” box is provided where you might enter someone of your own choosing. Also, the 2009 and 2010 winners and event photos are on the site, giving an overview of recent eco-movers and shakers.
There’s still time to get the last-minute word out about both contests through commonly used services, such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz, and of course, e-mail.
