Reasons to Celebrate

As the Snowmagedden 2011 of Chicago has finally subsided, let me share a couple of reasons to get out your mental “party hats”  and put some fun into this winter season: 1) Today marks the  beginning of  the Chinese New Year, or Year of the Golden Rabbit. It’s the longest and most significant of Chinese celebrations, lasting for 15 days. Ironically, the traditional use of firecrackers privately has been banned or monitored by authorities globally, due to safety issues. 2) For foodie fans, it’s National Carrot Cake Day—that wonderfully rich, vegetable-based cream cheese frosting indulgence. However, it doesn’t have to blow your entire weekly calorie count. Find recipes on the Web for healthier versions using applesauce, whole wheat flour, brown sugar, as alternative ingredients.
