The 12 days of Whatever You Like

Everybody knows the perennial “12 Days of Christmas,” with its myriad versions and parodies. One of the nicest items I recently ran across while shopping this holiday season was a greeting card featuring the well-known tune. However, this card was a delightful twist on the original.

12 days of christmas This card, created by the talented artists at Allport Editions, in Portland, Oregon, created a  wonderful 12 Days of Sustainability.  Instead of the traditional lines, you’ll see new lines like “9 unplugged electronics,” “7 gardens growing,” “5 green rings,” and “2 reusable bags.”

The card was so cute that I didn’t want to send them out, but frame them as gifts. It intrigued me so that I went on the website, and saw a whole slew of 12 Days offerings, with everything from books to favorite American cities.

Just goes to show you that although this tune has lasted through a wide range of changes, and adaptations, it’s still a much beloved aspect of Christmastime. Now I can’t stop humming “On the first day of Christmas…..”
